John Whittemore Obituary
Mr. Whittemore was a native of St. Clair County. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Paratrooper Jump Master, Military Police and small arms expert while in the U.S. Army.
He retired from U.S. Steel in Indiana with 22 years of service. He loved doing carpenter work and was an excellent mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Whittemore; sister, Bernice Matherley; and brothers, F.L. Jr., Hobert and Stanley Whittemore.
He is survived by sons, Don (Joyce) Whittemore, Rick (Kim) Whittemore and Tim (Susan) Whittemore; grandchildren, Lisa (Chris) Brady, Donnie Whittemore, Jr., Lauren and Mallory Whittemore, Timothy Whittemore, Amy Whittemore and Nena (Wes) Stephens; three great grandchildren, Joey, Ryan and Josh Brady; brother, D.H. (Betty) Whittemore; sister, Frances (Ivan) Lowe; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to the Safe Harbor Unit on the sixth floor of the VA Hospital in Birmingham.
Pallbearers will be Bennie, Rod, Johnny, Donnie, Timothy, Jimmy and Jack Whittemore.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
