Margie Gann Obituary

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Collier-Butler Funeral Home for Mrs. Margie Wilson Gann, Whorton Bend, who passed from this world peacefully on Saturday, July 24, 2010. The Rev. Allen Payne will officiate with burial at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral Home and Cremation Services directing.
A lifelong resident of Etowah County, she lived most of her life in Whorton Bend, where she was born. Margie loved living on the home place where she raised three wonderful children. Her vocation was in retail sales, working for Belk in the china department for 25 years. Margie's kind and caring way helped many brides and their mothers through the stressful planning process of a wedding. After retirement, she began private sitting in the hospital and patients' homes. Margie loved to see nature and spent many hours in her garden. She often said that the best stress relief came from working in the soil and pulling weeds.
Margie was preceded in death by her parents, Sam Wilson and Mae Owen Wilson; husband, John D. Gann; and daughter, Susan Gann Freeman.
She is survived by her sons, Edwin (Kay) Gann, Gadsden, and John S. Gann, Poplarville, Miss.; son-in-law, Michael Freeman, Chevy Chase, Md.; grandchildren, Barbara Gann, Marietta, Ga., Jimmy Gann, Gadsden, Ami (Bryan) French, Trussville, Carol Rintamaa, Metor, Ohio, John E. (Denise) Gann, Alabaster, Kelly Moyer, Mechanicsville, Va., Steven Freeman, U.S. Air Force, Japan, and Rick Freeman, Chevy Chase, Md.; and six great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff, past and present, of McGuffey's first hall for the loving care given to our mother; also to Wiregrass Hospice for their support during this difficult time.
It was Mrs. Gann's wish that there be no flowers for her service. Memorials may be sent to your favorite charity or Whorton Bend United Methodist Church, 2757 Whorton Bend Road, Gadsden, AL 35901.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

I have known Margie most of my life. I remember her as kind and gracious. I visited Margie at McGuffey's on a few occasions when I also visited one of my friends that was on the same hall. She always smiled that beautiful smile at me and indicated that she knew who I was. I am very sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers.

Margie will be greatly missed. She was one to extend herself and what she had to others - she was generous and never 'forgot hospitality' (Hebrews 13:2). May all of your memories bring both happiness and comfort.
