Marian Snead Obituary

Marian Christine Story Snead, 92, (Feb. 10, 1924 - Aug. 12, 2016) was born in Augusta, Ga., daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank C. Story Sr. She graduated from Tuscaloosa High School. She was married to Herman Bradford Snead on Jan. 10, 1946, worked for the Federal Government and later for the Piedmont School System, where her children attended school. Mrs. Snead was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Bradford Snead Sr.; parents, Dr. Frank Story Sr. and Mrs. Frank Story Crawford; sisters, Mrs. June Hughes, Mrs. Ann Dittus; and brothers, Dr. Frank C. Story Jr. and Mr. Robert Crawford (Joan).
She is survived by a brother, Charles Crawford of Cartersville, Ga.; sister-in-law, Joan Crawford of Newnan, Ga.; son, Brad Snead Jr. (Teresa) of Kenai, Alaska, Kathy Waldrop (Mark Newman) of Tallapoosa, Ga.; grandchildren, Michael Harris (Rebecca) of Buchanan, Ga., Amos Snead (Whitney) of Washington, D.C., Joel Snead (Jessica) of Birmingham, and Mark Snead of Washington, D.C.; nine great-grandchildren, Evan, Emily, twins Anna and Matthew, twins Emery and Harrison, Barrett, Lily, Max; and special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Snead made her home in Piedmont, and retired to their lake home in Centre. She and her husband were later residents of Cherokee Village Assisted Living in Centre, and Cottage Landing Assisted Living in Carrollton, Ga. She was active in the First Baptist Church in Piedmont, serving as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, choir member, and the Woman's Auxiliary Circle. In Centre, she was a loyal member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and participated in Outreach Programs for the elderly. She and her husband were members of several Bridge Clubs with close friends. They also enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom they adored. Mrs. Snead especially loved her garage sale business with her friend, Dot Johnson in downtown Centre. Always an avid speller, Mrs. Snead loved playing her friends and family in Scrabble and Perquacky. As a senior, she entered the Senior Spelling Bee and was able to represent the area in the Alabama Regional State Competition.
Visitation will be at Perry Funeral Home in Centre today at 2 p.m.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m., officiated by Rev. Keith Day, followed by interment in Cherokee Memory Garden in Centre, officiated by Rev. Eugene Burgess.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
