Gaffney, SC - John Benson Blanton, 85, of 1024 Pacolet Highway, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late James Lewis Blanton and Eunice Martin Blanton. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and a United States Army Veteran, having served in Germany during Vietnam Conflict. He was retired owner/operator of Johnny Blanton's Wrecker Service. He enjoyed restoring tractors and old trucks and bicycles and donated bicycles to various children's organizations. Mr. Blanton was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Surviving are two nieces, Valarie Huskey of Boiling Springs and Debbie Mikota (Dr. Bruce) of Roebuck; two nephews, Greg Blanton (Brenda) of Shelby and Steven Blanton (Libbie) of Gaffney; a sister in-law, Wilma Blanton of Gaffney; and several great-nieces and greatnephews. Mr. Blanton was preceded in death by two brothers, David V. Blanton and Woodrow Blanton; and sister, Beatrice B. Allison.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Frederick Memorial Gardens with Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
