Smyrna, SC - Max Daniel Bolin, age 86, passed from this life and went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at his home in Smyrna, South Carolina. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Joanne Martin Bolin, and his children and grandchildren: daughter Patti Bolin, son Eric Bolin (Kristi), son Brandon Bolin (Alicia) and grandchildren Daniel, Maci, Mariel, Noah and Natalie Bolin. He is the son of the late Paul and Mable Bolin of Smyrna, South Carolina, and was one of ten children: David Bolin (deceased 1981), Connie Hulett, James Bolin, Art Bolin, Bill Bolin, Mary Sue Allison, Ellen Davis, Johnny Bolin and Nancy Coughlin.
Max was a devoted husband, father, and PawPaw to his immediate and extended family. The only love he had greater than for his family was for his Lord. Max was a devout Christian, serving as a deacon and Bible teacher. He was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church, Blacksburg, South Carolina. He loved to share his love for Christ with others and did so throughout his life. He had a heart for visiting the sick and those in nursing homes and hospitals. He genuinely loved spending time with them and praying for and with them. Max had a sincere interest in learning about people and making honest connections with them. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger.
Max served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955. After his discharge, he was in the Air Force Reserves for over 10 years. He took great pride in his military service and was proud to be an Airman. He was an electrician by trade and worked at Westinghouse in Charlotte, North Carolina, for 25 years until being disabled. He was a loyal worker and cared about the company. He was a true friend to those with whom he worked.
He enjoyed gardening, listening to gospel music, and cultivating relationships with people from all walks of life. Although Max faced much adversity after being hit by a car, he never lost faith, hope, or sight of what mattered most to him: God and family. He modeled forgiveness and faith in all aspects of his life.
