Melvin Hudgins Obituary
Pacolet, SC - Joe Melvin "Mel" Hudgins, 80, of 1261 Asbury Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Cherokee Medical Center.
Born in Kosciusko, MS, he was the husband of Susan Smith Hudgins and son of the late Brian Hudgins and Hazel Wilkinson Hudgins. He retired from the U. S. Navy after 20 years of service, also retired from Gaston Memorial Hospital, and was a member of Rehoboth Baptist Church. He trained bird dogs, was very mechanical, loved sitting on the front porch and fellowship with family and friends whom he loved, and enjoyed Susan's flower garden.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a brother, Tom Hudgins (Mary) of Kernersville; a sister, Esther Hendrick (Michael) of Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Hudgins and three sisters, Dorcas Sinclair, Lucille Anthony and Lois Best.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Rehoboth Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the Church with Reverend Joe Mac Sparks officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, July 7, 2023 in the Evergreen Cemetery in Belmont, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Rehoboth Baptist Church, 110 Rehoboth Road, Gaffney, SC 29340.
The family will be at the residence, 1261 Asbury Road, Pacolet, SC 29372.
