Richard Wayne Clary

1922 - 2018

Gaffney, S.C. - Richard Wayne Clary, 95, formerly of 601 E. Jefferies Street, passed into the hands of his loving Lord on June 23, 2018.
Born in Charlotte, NC on September 8, 1922, Wayne was one of ten children of the late Barney Clanton Clary and Mabel Kendrick Clary. He was married to the late Evalee White Clary for 56 years before her passing in 2004. Wayne graduated Gaffney High School in 1939 and is one of seven brothers who served in World War II. He retired from the Timken Company. Along with Jack Hodge and John Oliver Childers, they formed The Gaffney High School Football Booster Club shortly after Coach Bob Prevatte came to Gaffney. He was a Cherokee County School Board Member and was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon.
Surviving is a son, Mike Clary and wife, Charlene of Gaffney; and two brothers, Bill Clary of Gaffney and Stan Clary of Spartanburg. Mr. Clary was preceded in death by five brothers, Phil, Buford, B.C. Jr. (June), Carl and Thurman; and two sisters, Hannah and Nancy.
The family will greet friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tommy Huddleston and Mr. Jerry Cobb officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery with Military Rites.
