Gaffney, SC - Robert Noil Thompson, 78, of 240 Patrick Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at his residence.
Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of the late Mattie Jane Jackson Thompson and son of the late Richard Broadus Thompson and Altie Moree Mullinax Thompson. He retired from Cherokee Finishing, was a U. S. Army Vietnam veteran, and a member of Bethel Apostolic Church in Union. He loved his family, fishing and woodworking.
Surviving is a son, Ethan Michael Cole of Gaffney; two daughters, Robin Thompson Horne (Johnny Brown) and Sara Thompson Upchurch, both of Gaffney; two sisters, Nancy Thompson Estes (Billy), Vivian Sue Ramsey (Jeff), both of Gaffney; two brothersin law, Tom Pennington and Tommy Hughey, both of Gaffney; a sister-in-law, Debra Thompson of Gaffney; seven grandchildren, Brandon Lee Horne, Nikki Reynolds (Brian), Misty Lane (Robert), Tiffany Horne (Billy Waldrop), Hayley Horne (Herbert Duncan), Kayla Thompson May (Josh) and James Robert Upchurch; twenty-two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel Earl Thompson, Grady Marvin Thompson and Charlie Lee Thompson and four sisters, Mary Ann Thompson, Janice Hughey, Sarah Emma Thompson and Althea Jane Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Zachary Taylor and Pastor Oscar Guest officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in the Sardis United Methodist Church Cemetery.
