Ruth Weathers Obituary

Forest City, NC - Ruth Champion Stroup Weathers, 100, of 493 Piney Ridge Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

Born in Forest City, she was first married to the late Charles Patrick Stroup, the widow of the late James Flay Weathers, and daughter of the late Robert Lewis Champion and Anna Allen Champion. She was a graduate of Union High School, Limestone College and Winthrop College, and retired from Draytonville Elementary School where she served as a teacher and principal. Ruth was a former member of First Baptist Church in Gaffney and a current member of First Baptist Church of Forest City where she was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Charles Patrick Stroup, Jr. (Judy) of Gaffney; a stepson, Jim Weathers of Forest City; three grandchildren, John Stroup (Amanda), Meg Stroup and Paige Fraker; two great-grandchildren, William Stroup and Anna Stroup; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bonnie Champion Stroup Fraker, a stepson, John Weathers, a stepdaughter, Libby Weathers Harrill, a brother, Max Champion and four sisters, Esther Carothers, Eugenia Randall, Nellie Mason and Mary Brookshire.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30PM on Monday, January 12, 2026 in Frederick Memorial Gardens with Reverend Kevin Hampton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church of Forest City, 211 W. Main Street, Forest City, NC 28043.

The family will be at their respective homes.
