Susan McGowans Obituary
Gaffney, SC - Susan Thornton McGowans, 74, of 172 Tumbleweed Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 7, 2025 at her residence.
Born in Gaffney, she was the wife of the late James Vincent "Bear" McGowans and the daughter of the late Joseph James "Blacky" Thornton Sr. and Zula Pruitt Thornton. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School, enjoyed reading, traveling, bird watching and loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. McGowans was retired from Nestle and was a member of Christian Heights Baptist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Steven McGowans of Pacolet and David McGowans of Gaffney; a daughter, Beth Blanton (Phillip) of Mooresboro; two brothers, Mike Thornton (Cathy) and Joe Thornton (Martha), both of Gaffney; a sister, Sandra Quinn of Gaffney; five grandchildren, Brittany Tennell (Julius), Samantha Mason (Tyler), Joshua McGowans (Alicia), Tori Henderson (Wayne) and Austin Blanton; ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until 2:00PM on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Ashby Blakely officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 502 Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
The family will be at the home of Beth and Phillip Blanton, 2209 Camp Creek Church Road, Mooresboro, NC.
