John Douglas Lawrence, age 71, A Native of Lucedale, Mississippi and retired State Resource Conservationist, left this earthly scene on January 27, 2016 during a brief stay at Shands Hospital (Gainesville, FL).
Mr. Lawrence received a BS Degree in from Alcorn State University and later a BS Degree in Agronomy from New Mexico State University. Upon moving to Gainesville, Florida, he begin his career with the US Department of Agriculture (where he was employed for 36 years).
The Final Tribute in Everlasting Memory will be held 10:30AM Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church (Gainesville, FL) with Reverend Adrian S. Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows Memorial Park - East. Mr. Lawrence will be viewed at the Funeral Home on Friday 2:00-7:00PM - At the Church on Saturday 30 Minutes prior to the Services - And with the Processional. The Procession will form at Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence's residence, 1216 SE 12th Terr, Gainesville at 9:45AM.
John's loving smile, kindness and gracious hospitality will be greatly missed by his devoted wife - Susie Bradley-Lawrence of Gainesville, FL; step sons - Dominic (& Talora) Johnson of Atlanta, GA and Theophilus Johnson and Brian Johnson of Gainesville, FL; sisters - Mary Campbell of Mobile, AL and Alice (& Jean) Black of Bogue Chitta, MS; 14 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; aunts & uncles; sisters-in-law - Viola Lawrence, Margaret Lawrence and Flossie Lawrence of Lucedale, MS and Cassie Jackson and Marjorie (& Dea. Esau) Pernell of Gainesville, FL; brothers-in-law - Slater Street of Lucedale, MS and Alphonso Oscar Bradley of Gainesville, FL; nieces & Nephews (including Mike Holmes of St. Petersburg, FL); Cousins; God-Son - Nathaniel McAllister of Gainesville, FL; & friends.

John was the best supervisor I worked for during my government service. He was always looking out for us and ready to help and give guidance in accomplishing our jobs. I know his family, and I too, miss him. I do honestly believe that when we step into the future, John will be one of the spiritual beings that greet us.
