Brian Patrick Kelly Obituary

Brian Patrick Kelly, age 43, of Gainesville, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel in Gainesville with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, at the funeral home prior to the service.

Brian was born on July 5, 1972, in Fulton County, Ga. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cairo. Brian was a member of the Cairo High School graduating class of 1990. He graduated in 1993 from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga., with an Associate of Science degree and continued his education at the University of Georgia in Athens in 2000, majoring in criminal justice.

He continued his education at the FBI Academy Center and graduated in 2004 and finally completed his Master of Public Administration in 2009 from Columbus State University. He is the current President of the Georgia Chapter of the FBI National Academy Associates. Brian spent over 20 years of his career serving his community as a police officer in many capacities including Patrol at the University of Georgia Police Department and then Patrol, CID, SSD, Chief of Police for Gainesville City and Field Operations Bureau Commander for the City of West Point.

Brian is survived by his wife, V. Lyn Kelly; daughter, Julia Kelly, both of Gainesville; parents, James and Judie Kelly of Cairo, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Lt. Col. Brandon and Sherry Kelly; nieces and nephew, Dakota Kelly, Dinae Kelly, Dylan Logan, all of Sahuarita, Ariz.; aunt and uncle, Deborah and Stan Purser of Griffin, Ga.; uncle, Kenneth Sharpton; aunt, Becky Lowery of East Point, Ga.; and a number of other family and friends.

Brian always had a smile and greeting when we crossed paths and would stop what he was doing to to help me whenever needed. I will always remember Brian as a true and honest professional as well as a kind person. My condolences to the family during this time of sorrow.
