Celestia Smithgall Obituary
Funeral services for Celestia (Lessie) Bailey Smithgall, are scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Green Street. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. A private family reception will be held immediately following the service.
Memorials may be sent to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Botanical Garden-Gainesville, or to the Semper Fi Fund for wounded soldiers.

What a profound loss of one of the south's most beloved and influential women. I spent time with Lessie and Thurmond on my visits to Gainesville over the past few years. Lessie was one of the most gracious and classy women I've ever met. She also had a great sense of humor. I treasure the brief times I spent with her. What a lasting legacy. May Lessie rest in peace.

It was our honor and privilege to know Lessie Smithgall, through her son and our friend Thurmond. She was a remarkable lady, sharp until the last, witty and charming and lots of fun.
