Jimmie Vandiver Glosson Obituary

Died March 11, 2017

Mrs. Jimmie Vandiver Glosson, 85, of Gainesville, died peacefully Saturday, March 11, 2017, at her residence.

A loving daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Glosson was born and raised in Jefferson, Ga. She was the daughter of the late William Harrison Vandiver, Sr., and Frances Willard Thompson Vandiver. Mrs. Glosson was a graduate of Jefferson High School and The University of North Georgia. She touched and shaped many lives as an elementary school teacher in Gainesville for over 30 years at Riverbend Elementary, Main Street Elementary, Candler Street Elementary and Fair Street Elementary. Mrs. Glosson was a very active member for over 60 years at St. Paul United Methodist Church. She was an avid and talented piano player and also a longtime member of the choir at St. Paul.

Mrs. Glosson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and David Timms, Dawsonville; son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Tanya Glosson, Gainesville; grandchildren, Jeremiah Whelchel, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Van Glosson, Atlanta, Monica Glosson, Chicago, Ill.; sister and brother-in-law, Carol Jean and Gene Chick, Tallahassee, Fla. A number of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Mrs. Glosson is preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe Alfred Glosson; son Alf Glosson; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. & Mrs. William Harrison Vandiver, Jr. (Vivian).

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at St. Paul United Methodist Church on Washington Street. The Rev. Calvin Haney will officiate. The remains will lie in state at the church Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home Monday, March 13, 2017, from 6-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 404 Washington St., Gainesville, Ga. 30501; Hospice of Northeast Georgia, 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 115, Gainesville, Ga. 30501; or a charity of your choice.

Mrs. Glossing taught me at Candler Street School in the early 70's. That seems like forever ago in some ways and like yesterday in others . Those were simpler times back then for sure.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
