Mattie Belle Sampson

1936 - 2024

Mrs. Mattie Belle Sampson age 88 of Pleasant Hill Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Monday March 11, 2024 in the North East GA Medical Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Sampson was born on January 7, 1936 in Forsyth County, GA., the daughter of the late Haskel Allison and the late Florence Martin Allison. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. She was a Teacher with the Union County School System for over thirty one years. Mattie loved being outdoors, growing flowers, gardening, sewing, quilting and reading. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and also her husband, Wymer Gordon Sampson Jr. who passed away in 2010, brother and sister in law, Richard and Wyndal Allison, sister in law and brother in law, Frances and Franklin Cook, nephew, Kyle Edwards and a niece, Gayle Elrod. Mrs. Sampson was a member of Old Union Baptist Church. Surviving Mrs. Sampson are three daughters and two sons in law, Connie and Tony Durham of Chickamauga, GA., Karen and Bill Taffs of Tucker, GA., Kathy Sampson of Oakwood, GA., one son, Phillip Sampson Jr. of Blairsville, two sister and brothers in law, Bonnie and James Elrod, Judy and Larry Edwards, one brother, Ronald Allison all of Gainesville, GA., five grandchildren, Allison, Jennifer, Phillip Wymer Sampson Jr., Georgiana and Victoria, two great grandchildren, Brody and Brylee Durham, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 16, 2024 at 2:00 pm at the Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating. A eulogy will be given by Gloria Corbin. She will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 1-2:00 pm. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Ken Edwards, Kevin Edwards, Rick Corbin, David Rogers, Ricky Rich and Van Payne. Interment will follow in the Old Union Cemetery where she will rest beside her beloved husband Wymer. The family would like to thank her caregivers whole heartedly for their wonderful care, Gloria Corbin, Shirley Rogers and Linda Kelley. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-9:00 pm. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of the arrangements.
