Michael “Mickey” Eugene Neidenbach Obituary

Mickey Neidenbach died on the morning of Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011. He was 57 years old. Mickey was a devoted husband and father, an active member of his community, and an attorney dedicated to serving the people. For many years he volunteered his time for local Boy Scout troops and the district council. He was also an avid golfer, a runner, and involved in Gainesville Parks and Recreation Summer Community Theatre. He is best remembered for his roles as the captain in "The Sound of Music" and the king in "The King and I."

Long-time resident of Gainesville, Mickey was born in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Sept. 30, 1953. He moved with his family to Georgia at the age of 8. He attended Gainesville City schools and graduated from Gainesville High in 1971. He married his high-school sweetheart, Beth Reins, in 1975.

Mickey received a bachelor's degree from Tulane University and graduated from Tulane Law School in 1980. After earning his law degree, Mickey and Beth returned from New Orleans to Gainesville, where he opened his own law practice. As an attorney Mickey was committed to helping his fellow citizens in need, no matter the circumstances.

Mickey's generosity extended to all of his activities. With an open mind and heart, he always put others before himself. This was most apparent when it came to his family. He was a dutiful son and brother, a loving husband, and a model father. He will be missed by all whose life he touched.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Beth; his daughter, Libby Neidenbach, Richmond, Va.; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Patty Neidenbach, Richmond, Va.; his son, Tony Neidenbach, New York City; his parents, Ken and Vera Neidenbach, Gainesville; his brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Ann Neidenbach and their children, Audrey and Sam, London; his brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Beth Neidenbach and their children, Charles, Sarah Glenn, Charlotte and Thomas, Spartanburg, S.C.; his in-laws, Elizabeth Ann and Ed Cassady, Gainesville; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Michael and Mary Reins, and their son, Byron, Rhonert Park, Calif. He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Eads Neidenbach.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Sanctuary on Sunday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Phil DeMore will officiate. The family will receive guests following the service, in the banquet hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate in Mickey's memory to the Northeast Georgia Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Please send to Northeast Georgia Council Boy Scouts of America, c/o Martha Parker, P.O. Box 399, Jefferson, GA 30549.

It has been years since I have seen Mickey and Beth. We grew up together at GHS and were in the Crimson Chorus together. Mickey was always one of the nicest guys that I remember from high school days.

Beth, my heart goes out to you and the family. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Feel free to call me, if just to talk.
