Everett Cabell Dalton

1935 - 2021

Everett Cabell Dalton, 86, of Galax, Va., passed away Wednesday, Nov.10, 2021, in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center.
Everett was born in Carroll County, Va., on March 28, 1935, to Orville and Maggie Dalton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 27 years, Gelene Hanks Dalton; son-in-law, Sam Todd; and several siblings.
Everett served in the Army for seven years and was a life-time member of the Ruritans and Masons.
Everett is known far and wide for his many accomplishments with his dogs, having won hundreds of dog bench shows and hunting events, including national championships with his coon dogs. He also bred beagles and won bench shows and hunting events with them. Everett received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bluetick Breeders Association.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Elna Sue Haymore Dalton; daughter, Rhonda Todd, both of Galax, Va.; step-daughters and husbands, Cindy and Ronald Wright and Robin and Steve Ashburn, all of Pinnacle, N.C., and Paula Whitfield of King, N.C.; step-son and wife, Willie and Sandra Haymore of Pinnacle, N.C.; five step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Oakland Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Gregory and the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to the Pipers Gap Rescue Squad.
