Ira L. Johnson, 73 of Galion, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at the Country Meadows Care Center in Bellville.
Ira was born on April 28, 1948, in Nells, Kentucky, to the late Hassell and Daisy (Fouts) Johnson.
Ira honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1968 until 1970. During his time of service in the Vietnam War, Ira received many medals and awards, one of which was The Purple Heart. He would later work for Flxible Side Car Company for many years until retirement. Ira was a handy man and was always willing to help people. He was a member of the Lion's Club and Loyal Order of Moose #303, of Galion. He was very passionate for the US Military, enjoyed arcades and old movies especially westerns.
Left to cherish Ira's memories are his children, Sara (Joe Haney) Hively of Crestline and Sean (Kim) Johnson of Mansfield; seven grandchildren; brother, Frank Johnson; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jean Ness.
In addition to his parents, Ira is preceded in death by his brother, James Johnson, and sisters, Vassa "Linda" High, Edna Sanders, and Della Dameron.
Friends may call on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, from 12:00 p.m.to 2:00 p.m. at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. The family will observe a private graveside service at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions for the Wounded Warrior Project can be made in care of the funeral home.
