Mike married his high school sweetheart, Karen Jones on October 26th 1974 at the Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church of Sykesville, PA celebrating 51 years of marriage just days ago.
Along with his wife, Mike is survived by two children, Amy (Brent) Smith of Falls Creek and Chad (Yonnie) Slimmer of Chambersburg, PA.; five grandchildren, Madison, Taylor, and Brock Smith; Abby and Issie Slimmer; and a sister, Kathryn "Kitty" Bogacki of Reynoldsville. Mike was raised in Sykesville, PA and lived most of his life in DuBois and Falls Creek. He retired from Penn Traffic- Riverside Warehouse after 30 years. He was a loving, dedicated husband, father, and grandfather with a bold and funny sense of humor. He enjoyed the outdoors, including golfing, hunting, and fishing. Mike had his own landscape and fishing bait business for a number of years.
Mike's passion was coaching youth sports, including girls and boys basketball and baseball for over 35 years. He started coaching with his children in the elementary program at Juniata. He continued his coaching career at all levels, including the YMCA, Junior High, High School, and College. He especially loved being the head coach for the Brockway girls varsity basketball team. He was known for joking around with his players, because Coach Slim had always been a big kid at heart. He was an avid fan of many sports especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and of course the Los Angeles Lakers! But most of all he loved watching his grandchildren play their many sports they participated in.
Slim had many friends, was the life of the party, and he never met a stranger.
At Mike's request, there will not be a public viewing.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 11 am from Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church in Sykesville, PA.
