Carolyn Hiatt Obituary

GASTONIA - Carolyn Isabelle (Issy) Anthony Hiatt passed away on March 17, 2021 at Covenant Village.

Isabelle was born August 6, 1923 in Kings Mountain, NC to Luther Leslie Anthony and Margaret Hord Anthony. She was the wife of Walter A. Hiatt of Greensboro and the mother of Wally Hiatt.

Isabelle graduated from Gastonia High School, attended Erskine College and graduated from the Nursing School at City Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. She had a 38 year career as an RN at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. She returned to Gastonia in 1996 where she was an active resident at Covenant Village and faithful member of Pisgah ARP Church. Isabelle will be well remembered for her genuine interest in others and for her devotion to lifelong learning.

Isabelle is survived by her son Wally Hiatt and her nieces, Patricia A. Bond, Nancy A. Bryant and Martha A. Waggoner and their children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her beloved brother, Luther L. Anthony Jr. and sister, Margaret Frances Anthony.

A private graveside service for the family will be held at a later date at Green Hill Cemetery, Greensboro.

The family would like to thank each of Isabelle's wonderful caregivers: the staff of Covenant Village, the private sitters and our dear family friend, Nancy Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pisgah ARP Church, 3600 Linwood Rd., Gastonia, NC 28052 (pisgaharpchurch.org) or to the Friends of the North Carolina LBPH, 1841 Capital Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27635.
