Charles Withers Obituary

DALLAS - Charles Justice Withers, 66, passed away peacefully Feb. 9, 2013, at the Robin Johnson House.

He was a native of Gaston County, born Jan. 26, 1947, to Delilah Norris Withers and the late Carson Bynum Withers.

Charlie was a member of Baptist Temple Church, Reidsville, and attended Sandy Plains Baptist Church. He was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church for 62 years, a former Deacon, Sunday school director and Children's Ministry Leader. Charlie enjoyed golf and baseball, and had retired from Sears with 32 years in sales.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joyce Crisp Withers; his sons, Scott Withers and wife Shana of Dallas; and Craig Withers of Gastonia; his mother Delilah Norris Withers of Gastonia; four grandchildren, C.J., Brittany, Taylor and Kendal Withers; a brother Ralph Withers and wife Carol of Gastonia and a sister Marie Beard and husband John of Stanley;

The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service in the sanctuary.

A Celebration of Life service will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12 at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with Reverend Richard Brown and Dr. Stephen Hensley officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with the releasing of the doves.

Pallbearers will be Gary Withers Jr., Mark Withers, Mike Withers, Dwain Hinkle, David Denton and Freddy Denton.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Darrell Church, Bobby Haskins, Robert Isley, Bill Witherspoon, Bruce Whitaker and Ray Whitaker Jr.

I went to high school with Charlie and would see him from time to time at Sears. One of the nicest people you'd ever meet and it was always good to see him. He will be sorely missed.
