David Heavner Obituary

CHERRYVILLE - David Phil-lip "Junior" Heavner Jr., 78, of 709 Flint Hill Road, died Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Hospice at Wendover, Shelby.

He was born March 16, 1931, in Gaston County, a son of the late David Phillip Sr. and Sara Willow Brown Heavner.

Junior was a member of Cherry-ville Missionary Methodist Church, retired machinist from Dana Corp., Gastonia, and Korean-era war veteran of the U.S. Army.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Patterson Heavner; a daugh-ter, Deborah Smith; and a sister, Shirley Carroll.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Dean of Cherryville; a son, Farrell Reynolds of Lawndale; grandchildren, Heath Finley, Hailey Clinton, Joshua Dean, Brandon Dean and Courtney Dean; great grandchildren, Savan-nah, Patton and Gavin Finley and Tate Dean; sister, Daisy Kern of Cherryville; and five brothers Carl Heavner of Rocky Mount, Claude Heavner and Freddie Heavner, both of Cherryville, Pete Heavner of Lawndale and Tommy Heavner of Lincolnton.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church with the Rev. Bobby Holtsclaw officiat-ing with burial in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday at Cherryville Missionary Methodist Church from 12:45-1:45 p.m. and at other times at the home of Cindy Dean, 5409 Dellinger Circle, Cherryville.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, NC 28150.
