Evelyn Alexander Obituary
She was born April 29, 1923 in Fayette County, West Virginia to the late Ed and Polly Wilkie Sheppard.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Alexander, brother, Lowe "Butch" Hicks Jr.; sisters, Ellen Clark and Edna Mae Armstrong and nephew, Joel Douglas Clark.
Evelyn was born in West Virginia and moved to Belmont, NC with her mother in 1927. She worked at Climax Spinning Company and retired after 50 years of dedicated service. She was a member of East Belmont Baptist Church. Evelyn loved working in her flower garden and watching birds eat at their feeder outside her window. She spent many hours caring for people who needed it; her mother-in-law was one of many that she cared for. Evelyn loved Myrtle Beach where she and her husband Floyd spent their honeymoon in 1941. They tried to visit there every year after that. She helped in raising her two young brothers and also helped in raising her two sister's children. She was loved by all who knew her and did her best to love in return. She treated everyone she met with respect.
Some might say her greatest love in life was her snuff! She also treasured her clock collection. She lived a good long 94 years doing what was right and never wanting to hurt anyone.
Left to cherish her memories includes brother, Charles "Newt" Hicks; nephews, Leroy Young, Harold Hicks, Matthew Hicks, Sr., nieces, Joy Clark Long and Sharon Hicks Whitt; many great and great-great-nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from noon Saturday, March 10 prior to the Celebration of Life Service at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 10 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Taylor officiating.
Interment will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Hillside section
Pallbearers will be Greg Campbell, Caleb Campbell, Leroy Young, Matthew Hicks, Jr., Harold Hicks and Tyson Bittle.
Memorials may be made to East Belmont Baptist Church, 501 East Catawba Street, Belmont, NC 28012.

I, personally, know how much all of Evelyn's family loved her (and Floyd too). My son, Harold Hicks how he loves and admires him, She and Floyd were so good to Harold and also, to my daughter Tina. She and I remained friends all through the years. May God bless each one of you with the wonderful memories she has left you with. I have my sweet memories and I always smile when I think of her. Although I moved away, Harold stayed in touch and always spent time with her. I'm so thankful for the memories he will always have of his very special aunt. I loved her and Floyd.
