James Messer Obituary

KINGS MOUNTAIN - James Calvin Messer, 52, died April 3, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center.

He was born in Gaston County to the late Glen Calvin Messer and Marie Earley Messer.

He was proceeded in death by nephew, Mark Reid.

He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, and was an employee of Harris Teeter for 35 years. He had a strong faith in Jesus Christ which sustained him through his battle with cancer.

He was a loving husband, father and was a devoted Minnesota Vikings and UNC Tarheels fan. He was a loving husband, father, brother and son.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Nina Blanton Messer, Kings Mountain; daughter, Ina Marie Messer, Kings Mountain; mother: Marie Earley Messer, Gastonia; sister, Marie Reid and husband Jamie, Gastonia; brother: Jeff Messer, Gastonia; nephew: Matthew Reid, Gastonia.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, April 6 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Kings Mountain with Revs. Rob Quillin and Steve Swagger officiating.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at Harris Funeral Home, Kings Mountain.

Memorials may be made to Levene Cancer Center, 1021 Morehead Medical Drive, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Interment will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Kings Mountain.
