Joseph Vellers Obituary
Joe was born in Latvia, son of the late John and Emily Zuckers Vellers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Joseph Starr Vellers II, a granddaughter, Logan Vellers, a brother Evald and a sister, Olga.
He was also preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law William Pence and Georgia Claire Rhyne, Sr. of Lowell.
Joe came to this country and fell in love and married the love of his life of almost 60 years, Martha Ellen Rhyne Vellers. Together, they raised five children, Gary S. Vellers and wife Lisa of Stanley; Claire V. Smith and husband Robert of Thomasville; Martha V. McGee and husband Terry of Mor-ris, Ill..; Crystal M. Ommert and husband Harold of Gastonia; and a daughter-in-law Quita of Stanley.
Joe and Martha have thirteen grandchildren; Joseph Smith, Jeremy Helms, Derrick Smith, Heather Vellers, Stephen McGee, Ashley Shaw, Court-ney McGee, William Vellers, Aaron McGee, Callie Vellers, Emily Ommert, Evan Ommert, and Claire Ommert, along with seven great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews.
Joe was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Stanley.
Joe was retired from Gaston County Dye and Machine Company, and Scholl American Engineering, Charlotte.
He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until noon at the First Baptist Church, Stanley.
The Celebration of Life service will be at noon Friday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Tony M. Fulbright officiating.
Interment will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery with Military honors.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jeremy, Aaron, Stephen, Joe, Derrick, William and Evan.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 490, Stanley, NC 28164 or the Crisis Pregnancy Center, 800 Robinson Road, Gasto-nia, NC 28056.
