Marc and I worked out around the same time every day at the YMCA before the pandemic. Many times we would spend an hour on the Eliptical machines, side by side, talking about family, life, God, and our personal experiences. I haven’t returned to the Y yet, but he was someone I was looking forward to reconnecting with, and I am so sad to hear about his passing. We had such rich and deep conversations. I am a Baptist minister. Marc was fascinated and curious about my story, as I was his. Early on Marc never shied away from conversation nor outlandish and provocative comments. But when he realized I was neither offended nor did they bother me, our friendship became very real. We both created a safe space where we could authentically share our highs and lows in life. Some of our conversations had to be reduced to whispers due to the nature and content of our discussions. Lots of laughs, great stories, and some tears were shared between us on those Eliptical machines. I will miss those moments in the future, but deeply treasure the impact Marc had on my life. Shalom my friend.

I am heartbroken for the loss of Marc. He was like a big brother to me. As a little kid he would ask me to play golf w him and his buddies which made me feel special. As I got older I grew fond of Marc and his friendship. He was always asking me to come play golf and cards with him and I knew he was not just being nice but really liked me.

My heart goes out to Stephi, Pete and Ingrid. And most of all to the Senator You raised a wonderful son. Your family has been like family to me and mine. Stephi would wait on Matt and me every morning as little kids as she drove us to Gaston Day. Stephi, I always loved seeing your big smile. Mom loved Genie and Marshall. I will miss Marc and I will always remember him. Love Chet
