Marilyn Johnson Obituary

Marilyn Jane (Rutledge) Johnson

Cramerton -

Marilyn Jane Johnson, 85, of Cramerton, passed away on July 19, 2021. She was born August 29, 1935, in Monroe, MI - hence her nickname "Marilyn Monroe." Her parents were George H. Rutledge and Rosilla K. (Bennett, Rutledge) Trowbridge.

Marilyn married the love of her life, Allan G. Johnson, on August 4, 1956, having known each other since kindergarten. Together they had five children, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Allan G. Johnson, and her infant son, Steven Allan Johnson, her parents, and her brother, William Rutledge.

Left with wonderful memories and a huge empty spot in their hearts are her children: Pamela Ann Johnson Fitzgerald (Michael), Thomas Spencer Johnson (Margaret), Jill D'Ann Johnson (Cindy), and Bradley James Johnson (DeAnna);

Grandchildren, Shay Johnson Bennett (Nick), Trica Johnson, Kristen Johnson Goforth (Keaton), Matthew Johnson, Tanisha Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Niklas Johnson, Quinn Fitzgerald and Spencer Fitzgerald;

Great grandchildren, Jeremy Bennett and Hollyn Goforth.

Carolina Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Charlotte is handling the immediate arrangements. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Marilyn would love memorials to be made on her behalf to Meals On Wheels of Gaston County. Donations can be made to "Gaston County DHHS" with "Meals on Wheels Program" on the memo line. The address is 330 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Gastonia, NC 28052.

Marilyn's children would like to thank all of her friends and neighbors for their caring and support, but especially those special volunteers and employees of Meals on Wheels who became a part of her family.

My memories of Marilyn and Alan extend back to our days together at Monroe High School. We graduated together and went our separate ways. I remember them both fondly and know they are now together again for Eternity.

I knew Marilyn only a short time. But I am happy to express the affect she has had on my life. Glad that before her passing she got to meet my daughter. We all need angels in our lives from time to time. She always said that I was one of those angels for her, but I do not think that she knew that she actually was the angel in my life. Praying for the family and friends who knew her. Knowing that she's in a better place with no more pain or suffering is a godsend.

I had the privilege of delivering meals to Miss Marilyn. She was the best. I rearranged the delivery schedule so she was always last, which gave me plenty of time to talk with her, and get to know her. The world was a better place with her in it, and I will miss her. Her smile was contagious.

To her family, my condolences to you all. She always spoke of her kids, and she was very proud of you. Thank you for sharing her with me. I'll always remember her.

Among the volunteers of Meals on Wheels Marilyn was everyone's favorite. Her sweet smile never failed to warm my heart. It was such a privilege to be in her presence on my weekly visits. Blessings to her family and may her soul rest in peace.
