Nellie Wooten Obituary

BESSEMER CITY - Nellie Jean Payne Wooten, 78, passed away June 4, 2013, at Wendover Hospice, Shelby.

She was born Feb. 24, 1935 in Gaston County to the late Thurn Eugene and Margaret Kathleen Hutchins Payne.

Jean was a member of Long Creek Presbyterian Church in Kings Mountain. She retired from Reeves Brothers – Osage Division, Bessemer City and later was employed by PM US. Jean was an avid gardener who loved her family and her church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Jean is survived by her son, Jack Wooten, Jr. and wife Teresa; daughters, Melissa Conner, Julie Ledwell and husband Steve, Janice Melton; brother, John Payne and wife Paulette; sister, Peggy Farris and husband Lewis; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Wooten, Sr.; sister, Sarah Flowers.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday at Long Creek Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain, with Pastor Dee Liss officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunnyside Baptist Church Cemetery, Bessemer City.

Family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Dr., Shelby, NC 28150.
