I was so blessed and honored not only to know Mama Peggy, but to be loved and embraced by her as a daughter. What a true honor that will always be to me. She has inspired me in so many ways. She was a true servant of God and her actions always mirrored her words. I strive to be more like her. I will always, always miss her smile, her laugh, her love....and her incredible spirit. What a treasure she was.

Every time that I now think of Mama Peggy, my eyes fill up with tears. Is it because of what a beautiful and kind soul she was and always made me laugh, or is it because she's passed on. Probably both... Miss you and love you always Mama...

Peggy was a treasure to everyone who knew her.

Peggy always met me. as well as others, with a smile and friendly greeting. She always sang those spirituals as though the words were coming from the heart. Undoubtedly her friendly hellos and her gracious ways caused many to recognize that here was a special person. I always felt a little attachment to the Chanys through Odell's marriage to my uncle Herman Tate. May God bless you all as you remember her.

Dear Chaney Family,
It is hard to understand why our loved ones are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing that she was a special part of a well-lived life. Hold onto you memories and let them guide you during this time of sadness. My father just thought the world of her. On most mornings, he would open the barber shop, turn the air or heat on, get the Observer in and then walk down to the restaurant and get his usual "fix" that Miss Peggy would make for him. Would you believe that it was a fat back biscuit and a cup of joe. Then he would go back to the shop and begin his day. They loved and respected one another. She will be missed, she took care of so many people in her life time. Loved her customers and they her. May God's love make your grief bearable.

There are no words to express how much Peggy will be missed and cherished in the hearts of all those that knew and loved her. To know Peggy was to love her,she just had a way about her that invited you in. I miss her dearly and know that she is walking with God now..love you Miss Peggy!

Mere words fail to express the depth of our grief. You will be greatly missed. Kevin and Victoria, if there is anything I can do, please let me know.

Dear Chaney Family,
We are very saddened to know that Peggy has left us. I can close my eyes and taste a Peggy's Cheeseburger w/slaw(which my dad says was Lucille's creation - he remembers from his childhood w/Doug). Everytime we went to the restaurant - he, Peggy,Loretta and whoever else was there would recall the "old days". Please know that you are in our prayers. May God bless and keep you in his loving care as we know he is even now caring for Peggy. Her smile, warmth, and cheeseburgers will be greatly missed.

Dearest Kevin,
Your Mother is so precious to me! I think you already know this! She was the perfect Mother, friend and Christian. You are so blessed to have her for your Mother. I look forward to the day when we meet again in Heaven! All I have to do is close my eyes and I can hear her sweet voice in the Second Baptist Church Choir, when we sang "The King Is Coming." I love you Kevin, & if there is anything you need, just ask.
