Raeford Broome Obituary

LOWELL - Raeford Marshall Broome, 89, passed away April 10, 2014, at Caromont Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late James and Fannie Willard Broome; he was preceded in death by brothers, James, Clyde, Leroy and Harold Broome; sisters, Inez, Ethel and Beatrice; he was a WW2 Navy Veteran; retired from Cocker Machine Company; active member of First Baptist Church of Lowell; he was the last charter member of the Lowell VFD after 33 years of service; served on the Lowell City Council for 8 years and was instrumental in annexing several new areas into the city; a member of Lowell Masonic Lodge, he performed Masonic Burial Services for 40 years for different Lodges; he also donated 16 gallons and 7 pints of blood in his lifetime.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Rosella Johnson Broome; daughter and son in law, Sherry (Tommy) Ghantt of Gastonia; grandsons, Todd (Jamie) Ghantt of Kingsport, TN; Jamey (McKenzie) Ghantt of Gastonia; great-granddaughters, Taylor, Kendall and Lauren Ghantt; numerous nephews and nieces;

A service to celebrate his life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. A.A. Bailey and Dr. David A. Irish.

Burial will be in Gaston Memorial Park with rites by the Gaston County Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be members of the Lowell Volunteer Fire Department.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Ward Funeral Service, 220 South Broad Street, Gastonia.

I have known Raeford and Rosie my whole life thur church and growing up with w my grandparents a block over from them.. He was and will always be an amazing man!! I will miss his hugs and kisses every morning at church and just the simple touch of his hand that could make you feel at peace! I love you Raeford.. I know you are in heaven watching over all of us keeping us under your hand of protection also along with the mighty hand of God!

ive know mr broome since i was a young girl he was one of the nicest persons in lowell i remember a lot of them from there im from McAdenville but i live a lot of my young days in lowell there were some good people there my favorite was gearld morris,eddie lowe and of course larry simonds larry is still with us thank god prayers for the family
