Bangor, ME — Elizabeth (Libby, Liz) Whalen, 90, formerly of Great Moose Lake, Hartland, ME, died on May 4, 2021, at Solstice Senior Living in Bangor, ME.

She was born on June 17, 1930, in Pittsfield, ME, the daughter of the late Paul and Alice (Parkman) Coolidge. She graduated from Maine Central Institute with the "Great Class" of 1948. She attended Vermont College and Bryant University in Rhode Island.

She married Jack Whalen of Holyoke, MA, in 1955, and settled in Northampton, MA, where they owned and operated Whalen's Stationery & Office Supply Co. until retirement in 1984. Libby was President of the Northampton Quota Club in the 1970s. Over the years they resided in Hartland, ME, Quechee, VT, and winters in South Carolina.

She is survived by her "like sons" the Diemand brothers and their spouses: Paul (Cindy), Richard (Anita), and Michael of Massachusetts, and Francis (Bonnie) of Connecticut and their children.

She was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" Whalen, sister Madeleine (Coolidge) McKinney and the Reverend James, Robert and Timothy Diemand.

Special friends dear to Libby were Maryann and Dennis Lyman, Kathy Mizula, her Godson Danny Diemand, Laney Nelson, Roberta Reardon, and Lois and Dennis McKeering, and neighbors

Laurie Fitts-Loosigian, Harold Baird, Ron Holmes, John Plummer, and Paul Benoit of Hartland.

A private ceremony and burial will be held in the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta, ME, on May 26th.

I went to Northampton Commercial College 1967-1969.
Often visited their store for supplies.
It's amazing one's memory pops right back to yesterday so to speak.
MY major was accounting. Then took a computer job in Bloomfield, CT
then worked in computers in Springfield, MA called Solutions by Computer - in which I travelled in U.S.A. and Canada for the Rental Stores.
Now fully retired - living in Delaware
