James Zedonis Obituary

EASTHAMPTON – James A. Zedonis, 94, of Cottage Street, passed away at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke on Sept. 9, 2018.

He was a life long resident of Easthampton, where he attended local schools. Jim was the son of the late Walter and Pauline (Walskas) Zedonis.

He was a veteran of WW II serving with the United States Marines in the Pacific, first with the ground crew of the 115th Fighter Squadron at Okinawa, and later at Sasebo??????? during the occupation of Japan.

After the war, he and his brother, Anthony, formed Easthampton Welding & Radiator which they operated together until 1955. After working at Flight Enterprises for several years he was hired at Hamilton Standard, where he was employed as a sheet metal fabricator for 28 years, rising to the position of foreman. He retired in 1987. Jim was an avid fisherman and hunter.

A life member of the Easthampton American Legion Dalton Lavallee Post 224, he served as post commander from 1992 until 2001. He also served as American Legion District 2 Commander from 1996 to 1998, was a member of the Easthampton VFW Patrick F. McCarthy Post 3422, as well as the Easthampton Rod and Gun Club. Jim was a communicant at Our Lady of The Valley Church.

He was married to the late Jane Anne (Eger) Zedonis in 1946. Jane passed away in 1990.

Jim leaves his son Alan Zedonis and his wife Alice of Easthampton, his grandchildren: Juliann Pawlikowski and her husband Christopher, of Southampton; Amanda Zedonis-Kemp and her husband Randall; also of Southampton; Aaron Zedonis and his wife Dawn, of Seattle, Washington; and Adam Zedonis and his wife Katherine, of Davis, California; and his seven great grandchildren: Emily, Katherine, Caleb, Lowell, Waylon, Austin and Amelia. He also leaves his nieces Judith Zedonis and Christine Potter.

Besides his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Anthony, and his sister, Stella Jutkus.

His funeral will be held on Monday, Sept. 17 at 9 a.m. at the Boucher-O'Brien??????? Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant St. Easthampton followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of The Valley Church, 33 Adams St. Easthampton. Burial with Military Honors will be at St. Brigids Cemetery. Calling hours are on Sunday, Sep. 16 from 2-5 p.m.

The family wishes to acknowledge grateful appreciation to Unit 2 West and the Hospice Unit at Holyoke Soldiers Home for his exceptional care.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Soldiers Home, 110 Cherry St. Holyoke, MA 01040.
