JOHN T. SHEA III

Hatfield, MA — John T. Shea III passed away suddenly but peacefully at his residence in Hatfield on July 5, 2021.

John was born in Northampton on September 14, 1955, son of the late Clara (Toczydlowski) and John T. Shea Jr. Growing up in Hatfield he graduated from Smith Academy in 1973 and soon began pursuing his career in automotive. John was a volunteer firefighter in Hatfield and will be remembered having much fun driving the town muster truck at muster team competitions. He first started employment at Acme Automotive in Northampton. Years later through family friends he then found an opportunity in Hatfield joining lifelong friend and business owner Larry Flynn to build a new partnership at C&L Garage. John was always ready for friendly gatherings whether it was at the garage after work, local hangouts or vacationing with friends and family. To his misfortune a tragic fire ended his career short at C&L. "Papa Shea" then took some time raising his grandkids to regroup. Years after he found employment at UMASS as a storekeeper where he quickly made new friends and stayed busy at the college campus in Amherst. Traveling to St Martin was a tradition of his, always inviting new friends to join along. He built many friendships, enjoyed deep sea fishing and visiting the locals that became his family friends till the end. John was always found of enjoying conversations/stories at local hangouts with a cold Bud in hand. John loved having things to look after especially when he became a true Papa to his grandkids.

John is survived by his daughter Selina Fournier and her husband Frank, brother William Shea and wife Nancy of Hatfield, nephews William Shea JR and Andrew. Beloved grandsons Frankie Fournier V and Alex John Fournier that will forever miss his stories and companionship.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Our Lady of Grace Church in Hatfield on Wednesday July 14th at 10am with calling hours before beginning at 9am with his daughter and family, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Hatfield. CZELUSNIAK FUNERAL HOME has been entrusted with arrangements. For online condolences, please visit Czelusniakfuneralhome.com.

Family asks that any contributions in lieu of flowers for John please be made to the Hatfield Firefighters' Association PO Box 218 Hatfield MA 01038.

Truly a shock. Great memories with John. Many deer hunting adventures on Horse Mountain and who can forget the rumble of that Charger around town. He loved to laugh. Will be missed.
