Mary Kenefick Obituary
Northampton, MA - Mary Kenefick, 65, of Northampton, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April, 11, 2025.
Mary was born on January 5th, 1960. She grew up in Illion, New York with her parents Eileen and Joseph Kenefick. She was an only child.
Mary studied music composition, piano and social studies at Ithaca College. She received her MSW from the Smith College School for Social Work. She continued her education at Greenfield Community College and graduated with a degree in multimedia design.
Mary made Northampton, MA her home and worked as a social worker at Holyoke Hospital and for Cigna in their EAP unit. She was an avid gardener and bowler who enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod. She loved her cats, dogs, family, friends and neighbors. Mary was an enthusiastic conversationalist and loved to tell jokes and give advice. She was thoughtful, empathetic, generous and loved helping others.
Mary is survived by her daughter Shasta Aubuchon-Kenefick, her partner of 35 years Marian Aubuchon, her beloved papillon Princess Isabella and her godchildren Vera Beauvais, Justine Beauvais Jasper and Nate Jasper.
The family will be celebrating Mary's life privately. They invite people to honor Mary by making someone smile or committing a random act of kindness.

Mary, so sad to see this just now as I had moved back to NY to pursue my dream of climate justice at your encouragement. I will never forget the time we almost burned the house down trying to make brownies! (Lol)

Mary was very kind to me as we walked through the world in similar bodies. There are things that she modeled for me that I draw from to this day. I am wishing Marian, their daughter, and all who are mourning her the things they need to get through such a difficult loss.

I was Mary's music teacher when she was in 7th and 8th grade at the school in Ilion, NY. She was a very sweet and engaging student. She kept in touch with me over the years. I am very saddened by her passing.
