Mary Thrane Obituary

MARY ANN THRANE

Leeds, MA - Mary Ann Thrane, 65, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 7th after fighting a heroic battle against cancer.

Mary Ann was born in Troy, NY to Alfred and Rose Marie Thrane. She grew up in Mechanicville, NY and enjoyed spending her summers with family and friends at her family's camp on Pine Lake in Johnsonville, NY. As a teenager, many would see her riding around town on her Honda motorcycle. She left Mechanicville to attend college at The University of Buffalo where she earned her degree in plant biology. In 1985, she moved to Western Massachusetts with her three daughters where she found a love for working with children with special needs. She ultimately went back to school and received her degree at STCC in Occupational Therapy. She worked in the Holyoke Public School System until her retirement in 2022. In her retirement she worked part=time at Foster Farrar where she enjoyed working with her colleagues and customers. She was most proud of her grandsons, Jaden Reyor and Rui Vale da Serra and loved spending as much time with them as possible.

Mary Ann met the love of her life, Margaret "Peg" Ryan, in 2000 while working at Northampton Nursing Home. The two were married in 2004 and enjoyed kayaking, going to the beach to watch the waves and boogie board, traveling, visiting family, and attending concerts.

Mary Ann is survived by her partner Peg; her daughters Lorelei Wooley, Kristen Rae Vale da Serra, and Jamie Lynn Reyor and her husband, Jonathan; her grandsons Jaden and Rui; her step-granddaughter Jade O'Donnell; her siblings Christine Thrane, Jim Thrane and wife, Anna, and RoseMarie Thrane. Mary Ann had many treasured friends and colleagues at Holyoke Public School whom she loved dearly.

Mary Ann will always be remembered for her kind and caring heart and for living life to its fullest. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 20, 2024 from 3- to 6 pm at the Summit View in Holyoke, Ma. Please go to Czelusniakfuneralhome.com for online condolences and tribute book.
