Nicole Slowinski Obituary

Nicole (Betit) Slowinski

Colrain, MA - Nicole Amelia (Betit) Slowinski, 60, of Colrain, Massachusetts, passed away August 25, 2025 at home surrounded by her family. Nicole was born on August 3, 1965 in Whitingham, Vermont to John and Grace (Carruth) Betit. Nicole was a graduate of the Whitingham School District and proceeded to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at UMass Amherst, and then to continue on to the equivalent of 2 Master's degrees. Nicole was the first in her family to receive a degree in higher education. Nicole was a Veteran of the Air National Guard of Massachusetts. On December 14, 1990, she married James Slowinski of Colrain, with whom she shared 34 loving years. She was a dedicated teacher who spent countless hours after school and during summers, as well as her own money, striving to provide the best educational experience for her students. Nicole always took the success of her students personally and was always proud of their accomplishments and growth by the end of the year. Nicole was an avid parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church in Colrain, an active member of the Parish Women's Guild, former Religious Education Director, former Director of the Christmas Pageant, Griswold Memorial Library trustee, and member of Franklin County Technical School committee. She loved gardening and took special pride in the flowers around the farm. Nicole also enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. She loved cooking and was known for her Lasagna, which will be missed by many.

Nicole is survived by her husband, James; Children, Bobby, Sally (Jason), and Kristin (Henry); Siblings, Judy Slowinski (Matthew), Steven (Darlene), Jeanette Felton, Charlayne Shepherd (Andy), Diane Rogers (Dave), Almira Aekus (Craig), John, Lorne (Kristie), and many nieces and nephews.

Nicole is predeceased by her parents; siblings, Joel, Brian, Marc, Harley, and Jennifer.

The family will receive callers on Friday, September 5th from 4-7PM at the farm located at 7A Adamsville Road in Colrain, followed by a recitation of the rosary at 7PM.

A funeral mass will be held at 11AM Saturday, September 6th at St. John the Baptist in Colrain.

Nicole was one of the first women I met when I moved to colerain 25 years ago and and was fortunate to work in the library and enjoyed her many visits to the library when I was there and I'm heartbroken and wish all the family and my dear friend Bobby that her memory will continue to bless you all.
