SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. – Philip F. Lapan, 68, of Spotsylvania, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Phil was born and raised in Northampton, Massachusetts. After completing college he joined the Army where he enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a Counter Intelligence Agent.

After retiring as a MSG (E-8) Phil continued his career in the Intelligence community for an additional 26 years of service to his country. He was a long standing member of the American Legion. Phil was an avid photographer and enjoyed wandering the battlefields and bi-ways of Virginia.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Annemarie; sons Philip (Judy) and Danny; his two dachshunds, Ben and Jake; three grandchildren Natalie, Evan, and Katrina; sister Elaine Briggs (Ray); two nephews Nick and Ben; and numerous cousins.

He was buried Tuesday, Sept. 12, at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association and the Fredericksburg SPCA.
