Raymond Bombard Obituary

Raymond A. Bombard

Florence, MA — Raymond Bombard (86) died peacefully in his home on Thursday July 14, 2022. Born to Albert and Henrietta (Larkin) Bombard in Florence, MA, he was the oldest of 3 children. He is preceded in death by his parents and twin sisters Mary Hedin and Annie Herskowitz. He was raised in Springfield. A graduate of Springfield Technical High School, he joined the Army and after serving returned to Springfield. In 1960 he married his true love, Janet (Cirillo) Bombard. Ray went back to school while working full time and received a diploma in data processing from Springfield Technical Community College. They moved back to Florence when he got a job at UMass Amherst as a computer programmer, where he remained for the rest of his working career. He was an avid sports fan and always rooted for the local teams. Baseball, football and auto racing were his favorites. He enjoyed going to local games, especially UMass football and basketball and Red Sox spring training every year. Horse racing at the 3 County Fair and traveling to the different tracks with friends was something Ray looked forward to every year. After retirement Ray and Jan became snowbirds and spent winters in Florida. Time with his family was a priority. He was #1 Poppy. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed around the dinner table. In addition to his wife, Jan, he is survived by his three children, William Bombard and his wife Sandy, Susan Clevenger, and Thomas Bombard, four grandchildren, Anthony Bombard and his partner Mark Meko, Nicholas Bombard and his wife Beth, Daniel Clevenger and Jack Clevenger. His family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4th from 4 to 6p.m., at Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Rd, Northampton MA 01060. A funeral home service will be held Friday, August 5th at 10:30 a.m., at Ahearn Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or the Jimmy Fund.

Ray was my first boss when I started my career at UMass. I enjoyed working for him and his company for the many years we were both there.
