Robert Porter Obituary
He was born in Cummington, to the late Jesse and Myrle B. (Streeter) Porter and was a graduate of Westfield Trade School. Robert served his country with the United States Army from 1945 to 1946 during World War II. He attained the rank of Private First Class and received the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal.
Robert was employed as the head electrician for Mercy Hospital and retired in 1988. After retirement he would spend winters in New Port Richie, Florida, and was a member of the Western Mass Model T Club and the American Legion Post 0462 in Boston.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 67 years Phyllis W. (Boisseau) Porter, in April 2015, a son Jeffery Porter, his brothers Jesse "Raymond", Garfield, William and Wilbur Porter and sisters Barbara Robbins, Margaret Sears, Priscilla Lynds and Arlene Twiss. He is survived by his loving children Gerald R. Porter and his wife Diane of Westfield, Lorrie A. (Porter) Motyka and her husband Jim Motyka of Hatfield, Edwin A. Porter of Hatfield; daughter-in-law Susan Porter of Las Vegas, Nevada; a brother Morris Porter; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A funeral home service will be held Friday at 11:45 a.m. in the Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad St., Westfield, followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam. A visiting hour will be held Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
