April 23, 1984 - Feb. 5, 2014
Dominic Jerome Schlundt of Corvallis, beloved husband, son, brother, uncle and friend to many, died in a car accident while driving home on Feb. 5, 2014.
Dominic was born on April 23, 1984, in Corvallis, and grew up in Philomath. He graduated from Philomath High School in 2003. He was a Specialist in the Oregon Army National Guard for six years and served in Iraq during 2009-10. He worked as an auto mechanic for several years before going back to school at Linn-Benton Community College and Oregon State University, where he was working toward a degree in nuclear engineering.
He married his beloved Melissa Johnson on Oct. 22, 2011, in Ashland. He treasured every moment of the life they shared together in Corvallis. Dominic left a lasting impression on all those he met, was a deeply caring person, and loved his family and constantly prayed for them.
He loved to make people laugh, and he always saw the good in everyone and everything. Dominic loved working on all sorts of projects and could fix just about anything. He loved buying and working on old cars, four-wheeling and being outdoors.
He was there for everyone in his life whenever they needed him, whether it was unlocking a door, fixing a car or providing a listening ear. He was a voice of reason and encouragement for so many in his life.
Dominic was a devout Catholic, attending St. Mary's Catholic Church throughout his whole life. He centered his life and his marriage on God, and was active in many church activities. He volunteered for several years for the St. Mary's Youth Ministry Program, inspiring teenagers to grow stronger in their faith.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Schlundt of Corvallis; his parents, Robert Schlundt of Eugene and Susan (Bierek) Schlundt of Philomath; his sister, Ashley Hamlet, her spouse, Michael, and their three children; his brothers, Benjamin, Maximillian and Samuel Schlundt; and his grandparents, Maximillian and Sharon Bierek of Philomath, and Carl and Pat Schlundt of Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Dominic's name can be made to the St. John's Society (P.O. Box 1004, Corvallis, OR 97339), or St. Mary's Catholic Church Youth Ministry Program (501 N.W. 25th St., Corvallis, OR 97330).
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial, followed by a reception, will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the church. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery.
