Donald Koho Obituary

Oct. 4, 1924 - Oct. 26, 2005

Don Koho of Martinez Lake, Ariz., formerly of Corvallis, died Wednesday, Oct. 26, of natural causes. He was 81.

Don was born in Hutchinson, Kan., to William C. "Jerry" and Nora (Goodwin) Koho. In the 1930s, his family moved to Bend, where he attended local schools. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on Oct. 4, 1941, and saw action in the Pacific and Mediterranean while serving on the USS Boise during World War II.

Don married Dee Harmon in September of 1950. He returned to Bend with his family in 1955 and was active in the community. He served as president of the Bend Little League Association and the Yew Lane School Parent-Teacher Club. He was a member of the Bend Elks Club and the First Presbyterian Church of Bend. He umpired youth baseball and managed Bend Egg and Poultry for several years.

He moved to Corvallis in 1970 and became a foreman for Mutual Produce. In 1971, he married Idoll Smith. After retiring from the poultry business, he worked at the Motor Pool at Oregon State University for 10 years. He retired from OSU in 1986 and moved to Martinez Lake, Ariz., in 2000. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Idoll; his son, Bill; two brothers; two sisters; and his parents.

He is survived by his sons, Dennis Koho of Keizer and Scott Koho of Martinez Lake, Ariz.; his former wife, Dee Carmichael of Salem; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the First Presbyterian Church, 230 N.E. Ninth St., Bend. A private graveside service will follow at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hospice of Yuma, 1824 S. 8th Ave., Yuma, AZ 85364.
