Gerald Joseph Suing
December 18, 1934 - November 26, 2025
Gerald Joseph Suing, 90, passed away surrounded by love and family on November 26, 2025.
He was born on December 18, 1934, in Hartington, Neb., and his family moved to Lebanon, Ore. in 1937. He attended Salt Lake Elementary School in Lacomb, where he would often come early and start the wood stove to warm the classroom. He graduated from Lebanon Union High School in 1953 and served in the United States Army from 1956-58. In 1961, he married Nancy Goergen and they had 64 memorable years together in the house they purchased as newlyweds.
He worked for Champion Plywood for 32 years and then as a shipping clerk for Albany Industrial Machine until retirement. He attended St. Edward Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 65 years. Gerald was known for his love of gardening and kept busy in his woodshop making furniture, birdhouses, gifts, and things for the house and yard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ludwig and Gertrude Suing; a brother, Roman; and a great-grandson, Gavin Suing.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; their seven children (and spouses), Steve and Joan Suing, Marty and Tamaria Suing, Debbie Suing, Troy and Cathy Suing, Renae and John Tacy, Caroline and Michael DeMello, and Andy and Crystal Suing; his 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy. Also surviving are his siblings, Wilfred and Winona Suing, Elaine Westbrook, Rose Duerr, Gene and Gloria Suing, Ron and Leatha Suing, James and Carol Suing, and Barbara and Brian Bay.
Viewing will be held on December 12, from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Huston-Jost Funeral Home in Lebanon.
Funeral Mass will be held on December 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church in Lebanon.
