Keith Elwyn Mast of Corvallis died Tuesday at home. He was 72.
Keith was born in Goshen, Ind., to Gerald E. Mast and Bernice E. (Kauffman) Mast. After graduating from Goshen High School in 1953, he joined the Navy, serving as a radar man aboard the destroyer USS Collette (1955-1959).
He attended Goshen College and the Indiana University School of X-ray Technology. He worked in the X-ray department at Goshen Hospital until 1970. He then spent the next 18 years at Northern Indiana Public Service Company as a gas and electric engineer, followed by 14 years with the Elkhart County (Indiana) Highway Engineering Department.
Keith married Rhonda L. Holderman in 1963. They have two daughters, Jennifer Elizabeth of Yellowstone National Park, and Suzanna Lee of Venice, Calif.
He attended the Goshen City Church of the Brethren, where he served in choir, bell choir and on the church board. He also served on the Goshen Historical Society Board and the Elkhart County 4-H Fair Board, where he organized the fair parade for 26 years. He was also a member of Kiwanis and the Elkhart County Traffic Safety Committee.
Keith had a lifelong love of music and sang in the Blue Jacket Naval Choir, Menno Singers and Camerata Singers, as well as in church choirs. In his younger days he was a sports car and rally enthusiast.
He retired in 2003. In 2005, he and wife Rhonda moved to Corvallis, where he furthered his interests in camping, fishing, and geo-caching. He attended the First United Methodist Church and sang in the Spirit Choir. He was also a member of Corvallis Noon Kiwanis.
A memorial service is planned for later this week at the First United Methodist Church.
