Margaret Anderson Obituary

Margaret J. Anderson died peacefully at her home on November 15, 2025 at the age of 93.

Margaret was born in Gorebridge, Scotland on December 24, 1931 to Margaret (Reid) and John Hall. She had three siblings, Peter, Ann, and Bill. She spent her childhood in Lockerbie went on to attend Edinburgh University, where she graduated with Honors in Genetics. After graduation, she travelled to Canada where she met a young entomologist named Norman Anderson. They were married in British Columbia on September 15, 1956. They honeymooned on the Oregon coast, and eventually settled down in Corvallis Oregon.

There is not enough paper in the world or electrons on the internet to describe how much she was loved. Margaret was a wonderful storyteller, and those who knew her will continue to carry those stories forward.

She is survived by her children, Richard Anderson, Judith Bender, Susan Frisby, and Karen Stephenson; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and 29 children's books.

Donations in Margaret's honor can be made to the Greenbelt Land Trust.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 6, 2025 at the First Presbyterian Church in Corvallis, Oregon.

Yesterday

My mom, Janet Komar, and I have known Margaret since my mom joined a writing group Margaret belonged to in the 1970s. I always enjoyed reading her books and eating Norm´s honey made from bees on their property.

Yesterday

I will truly miss Margaret Anderson's presence on this Earth. Many years ago, back in the early 1980s I actually interviewed her over the phone as part of a Wilson Elementary School project. I read several of her books at the time and was quite taken by her ability to craft a story. Thank you, Margaret.
