Mark Kronsteiner Obituary

Mark Douglas Kronsteiner

June 28, 1940 - August 5, 2025

Mark Douglas Kronsteiner passed away at his home in Tigard, Oregon, on August 5, 2025, from congestive heart failure. He was 85 years old. Mark received in-home hospice care with the devoted support of his grandson, Jacob Kronsteiner, with assistance from Shannon Lumley.

Born on June 28, 1940, in Coquille, Oregon, Mark was the sixth and youngest child of Frank and Kathryn Kronsteiner. His family moved to Albany, Oregon, when he was a year old. He graduated from Albany Union High School in 1959 and proudly wore number 66 on the Bulldogs' 1956–57 District Championship football team.

After high school, Mark moved to Los Angeles to live with his brother Joe's family while attending El Camino College. He returned to Albany for the summer and, on his 21st birthday, suffered a broken neck in a diving accident at Crabtree Creek near Scio. Remarkably, he made a full recovery.

Mark spent decades working in the banking industry and ultimately served as the Pacific Northwest Manager of Locks and Vaults for First National Bank.

In 1970, he married Deborah Royal. They had two sons, Benjamin (deceased) and Noah. Though they later divorced, Mark and Deborah remained close friends and supported their grandchildren's mother, Erica, as she raised Elyssa and Jacob.

Mark is survived by his son, Noah; grandchildren, Elyssa (Kyle); great-grandson, Jameson and Jacob; sisters, Joan and Sherrill; brother-in-law, Fred; seven nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Benjamin; brothers, Bud and Joe; and sister, Carole.

Mark found joy in time with his grandchildren and great-grandson, his beloved dogs-all named Sugar-gardening, fishing with Jacob, classic films, and the music of Sting and Nina Simone. His humor was his trademark.

Interment with his son, Benjamin, at Finley Sunset Hills Memorial Park, Portland. At Mark's request, no service will be held.
