Richard Cook Obituary

Feb. 5, 1946 - July 16, 2012

Richard Frederick "Rick" Cook, 66, died at his home on Monday, July 16, from lung cancer.

He was born in Johnstown, Pa., to Bob and Ruth Cook. He had one sister and their family came to Oregon when Rick was 5. They settled in Medford, and then Albany where Rick attended school, graduating in 1964. His stepfather, Bob, taught him the floor covering trade.

He married Diane (Ewing) on March 25, 1972, and his love of fishing took them to Newport to commercial fish in 1973. They raised their family in Lincoln County, where Rick returned to floor laying in 1976, and in 1986 they moved to Logsden where he lived on the beautiful Siletz River until his death.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Diane Cook; daughters and their husbands, Tiffany and John Anderson of Spokane, Wash., Annie and Jeff Hughes of Santa Monica, Calif., Andrea Hodges of Baja, Calif., Sara Van Dam of Bonney Lake, Wash., and Julie Cook of Salem; son Scott Cook of Madras; sister Sharon Lutz of Eugene; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephews Mike and Beau; niece Audrey; and brother-in-law Joel Ewing and wife MaryKay.

Rick's parents preceded him in death.

Rick loved spending time with the family, especially the grandkids. Family get-togethers were always a highlight at the Cook household. Retirement plans were focused on going to see them as often as possible. He also enjoyed fishing, remodeling and gardening. Rick was a hardworking, creative man and just finished the second remodeling of his home. He was a member of the Logsden Neighborhood Church.

There will be a memorial celebration of Rick's life at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Toledo Foursquare Church.

Affordable Burial & Cremation Co. is handling arrangements.
