Delbert Alfred "Del" Cota

Delbert Alfred "Del" Cota Parish, FL - Delbert A Cota September 28, 1945 - May 6, 2024. Delbert Alfred Cota, 78, passed away on Monday, May 6th, 2024, from a brief battle of cancer. Del was born in Prairie du Chien, WI, on September 28, 1945, son of the late Hazel (Stender) Reed Cota. He married Penelope "Penny" Cota on February 4, 1979. She predeceased him on June 16, 1981. Del loved attending St Peter's church and working as a lifeguard in high school. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1963 and joined the military shortly thereafter where he served honorably in the Air Force. He went on to work for the United States Postal Office, as a mail carrier in Beloit, WI. He later transferred to the Madison Post Office and retired from there. As a mail carrier Del grew to hate the Wisconsin winters and the cold so, it came to no surprise when he moved to Florida once he retired. Del was a very loving, kind-hearted, and giving man, who loved spending time with his family and friends. Even though he retired in Florida he always made time to come back to Wisconsin to visit family and friends, during the summer months of course! He loved to read and was an avid pet lover. He enjoyed spending time with his dogs, Maggie and Bailey, going on bus trips to the Brewer's games, bowling, and playing softball. He continued playing on a senior softball league during retirement. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Jean Cota, FL, five stepchildren: Matthew Hubbard, Christopher Hubbard, Dennis (Cathie) White, Carrie (Rick) Sullivan, and Tony White; 9 step grandchildren: Quinn (Lindsey) White, Aidan White, Cassie Mory, Ashley (Josh) Hughes, Trevor (Alex) Sullivan, Heather (Rafael) Godinez, Adam White, Sarah White, and Spencer White; and 17 step great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters: Frances (Peter) Dohse and June (William) Linzenmeyer; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother and his wife, Penny, he is predeceased by his sisters: Elizabeth "Betty" deLorimier, Beverly Daniels, Lois Lucas, and Cheri Cota and brothers: David Reed and James Cota. Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at Milton Lawns Memorial Park, 2200 Milton Ave, Janesville, WI.
