Gary L. Overboe

1944 - 2025

EDGERTON, WI - Gary Lamont Overboe, age 81 of Edgerton, WI passed away after a brief illness on March 5, 2025, in his winter home in Mesa, AZ surrounded by his wife, son, and daughter-in-law. Gary was born on February 28, 1944, in Viroqua, WI, the son of Edwin and Olene (Yttri) Overboe.

He grew up on the family farm, one of four brothers, near Viroqua and attended local schools until having to take a leave to help on the farm. Gary married Donna Anderson on August 29, 1966, together they had one son, Greg. They resided in Janesville where Gary was employed by General Motors until retiring in 1995. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was proud to attend Parker High School, Janesville, as an adult while working the night shift at GM. After attending school for two years, he graduated with the class of 1970. When Greg joined the Rock Aqua Jays, he and Donna both became very active members of the team from 1977 to 1991. From that time in their lives he made many lasting friendships. After retiring, he and Donna enjoyed traveling in their motorhome with their beloved dog Sam, and they wintered in Lake Havasu, AZ. Donna preceded Gary in death October 19, 2000.

After Donna's death he moved to Edgerton, WI and enjoyed being part of the Towne Country Club Community. As part of his love for golf, he spent many winters in Hattiesburg, MS. One of his highlights was meeting Brett Favre while golfing there.

Gary married Christine E. (Martin) Blum on June 25, 2016. They had been well acquainted with each other with their children both being married into the Casper family. Together they enjoyed golfing, traveling, and wintering in Mesa, AZ. He attended Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton and also attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Beloit. He was a member of the Apache Junction, AZ American Legion. Gary was an avid Green Bay Packers fan, and had an amazing recall about players and history.

Above all else, his greatest joys in life were spending time with his family, as well as his beloved dog, Poppy. He introduced Chris into a special group of dear friends that were a special part of their lives together in Edgerton. Gary survived many health events in the last ten years with an amazing fortitude and everyone believed he would survive this last battle with pneumonia. His desire to get better was very strong and he never gave up.

Gary Overboe is survived by his wife, Christine Overboe; son Greg (Stephanie) Overboe; granddaughter Alyson (Jackson Vaughn) Overboe and their children Valerie and Wyatt Vaughn; grandson Gunnar Overboe; his bonus children, Gina Arado, Jodi (Derek) Casper; Matt Blum; bonus grandchildren, Alexis (Drew) McDonnell, Megan (Thomas) Franklin, Hunter (Becky) Casper, Anthony and Nicholas Arado; bonus great-grandchildren Madison, Walker, Christipher, Emmalyn, and Nova; his brother Robert (Gloria) Overboe; sister-in-law Kay Overboe; cousin David (Maryanne) Bolstad and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and his first wife, Donna Overboe, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Conrad and Lyder Overboe.

Funeral services are at 11 a.m., Friday, March 14, 2025, at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME, 1010 N. Wright Road, Janesville. Rev. James Johnson will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 13th and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, March 14th at HENKE-CLARSON FUNERAL HOME. Burial services with military rites will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery, Vernon County, WI at noon Saturday, March 15th.
