Mitchell Smith Obituary

Williams Bay, WI - Mitchell (Mitch) Alan Smith, age 90 of Williams Bay, Wisconsin, passed away at his home on May 19, 2025. Mitch was born April 21, 1935 to Mark and Gertrude (Acker) Smith in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

Mitch married Patricia (Pat) Smith on July 28, 1956 in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Mitch and Pat had 68 loving years together and raised two daughters.

He will be greatly missed by his children, Lisa Carey and Laura Smith; grandchildren, Shannon (Scott Burton) Carey, Sean Carey, and Colin (Elizabeth) Carey; great-grandchildren, Elise, Sullivan, and Isla Carey and Isaac and Rhys Burton; and sister, Shirley Smith.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and passing his Certified Public Accounting exam, Mitch joined a growing accounting firm in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. A dedicated professional, he completed taxes and provided financial guidance to hundreds of clients over his long career. Eventually, he had his own firm with several partners and employees, and he provided mentorship to many young tax professionals over the years.

Mitch held leadership positions in many community organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, Friends of the Lake Geneva Public Library, the Library Board, and he was the president of the Lake Geneva Chamber of Commerce.

Mitch and Pat were long-time members of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Lake Geneva. They volunteered at the Lake Geneva Community Meal, and distributed Holy Communion to residents of Lakeland Health Care Center for 25 years.

An avid traveler, he visited many US states and other countries. He was proud of his Scottish and Irish heritage and he and Pat visited Ireland six times.

He and Pat enjoyed listening to music and attending musical and theatre performances. They were a supportive presence at many family athletic events and concerts.

Mitch grew up playing cards and he participated in the St. Francis de Sales Bridge Marathon. He enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren, golfing (twice achieving a hole in one at George Williams College Camp Golf Course), making challenging jigsaw puzzles, was an avid gardener, and he was a life-long Packer fan.

A devoted husband, in later years, when Pat developed dementia, Mitch spent each day at the Lakeland Health Care Center. He was by her side every step of the way, including when she passed away on December 13, 2024. His loving care will not be forgotten.

Mitch will be laid to rest alongside his dear wife, Pat at Oak Hill Cemetery, Lake Geneva, WI during a private graveside service and family memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lake Geneva Public Library, 918 W. Main St. Lake Geneva, WI 53147. For questions on donating, please call the library at (262)-249-5299. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to LAZARCZYK FAMILY FUNERAL HOMES OF LAKE GENEVA & DELAVAN, WI. Please sign the online guestbook for Mitch at www.lffh.net.

Dear Lisa and Laura, I´m so saddened to hear of your Dad´s passing, especially so soon after your Mom. You Girls have been through so much. Your Dad was such a kind, gentle man and was so devoted to your Mom and you. He had a long professional career with my Dad and Mom as well as bond of friendship at St. Francis. Know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending love and hugs.
