Sandra Hendricks Obituary
Sandra Kay (Kislia) "Sandy" Hendricks Janesville, WI - A life of love, adventure and community in Janesville, Wisconsin
Sandra "Sandy" Hendricks, age 83, of Janesville, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 3, surrounded by her loving family in her home on the Rock River where she had lived for more than 55 years, the same home where she created a lifetime of memories, traditions, and friendships.
Sandy was born on August 20, 1942, to Leona and Fred Kislia. She was a proud lifelong Janesville resident; her roots ran deep and her loyalty even deeper. Her heart was devoted to her family, friends and Riverside Park.
In 1959, Sandy married Kenneth A Hendricks, and together they had four children: Kendra (Michael) Story, Kimberlee (Deron Lichte) Hendricks, Kathleen (Jonathan Wuest) Hendricks, and Kevin Hendricks. Although they later divorced, Sandy and Ken remained friends, celebrating family milestones together until his passing in 2007. Sandy shared over 40 years of her life with her devoted partner, Dennis Steed, who survives her. Together they loyally cheered for the Packers win or lose, enjoyed traveling and dedicated themselves to their families. No matter what they always had each other's back.
Sandy always put family first. A trait shared by her four children, who each chose to build their lives within just a few miles of her home, a testament to the warmth and sense of belonging she nurtured. She is survived by her sister, dearest friend and neighbor Diane Porter. The two sisters raised their families side by side along the Rock River, turning every holiday into a joyful occasion that united both families. Holidays at Grandma Sandy's were always lively, filled with children's laughter and cherished traditions.
Sandy's home was at the heart of her family. Her door was always open, her table always full, and her guidance readily available. Her philosophy was simple: family and friends are everything, live life to the fullest, and there's always room for one more stray at the table.
The river and boating were always a passion of Sandy's and she shared that passion with everyone in her life. Sandy found joy in bowling with her team, which she joined in 1989 and captained until her retirement in 2012, earning the rank of Grand Duchess, a title also held by her mother, Leona.
Throughout her life, Sandy built a successful career as an accountant and office manager. She was known for her remarkable ability to foster teamwork and connect with those around her. Guided by a strong common sense and a steady work ethic, she earned the respect of those around her.
Sandy didn't just love Riverside Park-she was part of its past, its recent renovations and future plans. As a founding member of Friends of Riverside Park, she played a vital role in transforming one of Janesville's most beloved parks into the thriving, multigenerational gathering place it is today. She grew up within the park and became one of its fiercest champions. To honor her memory, a new capital project is being discussed that will carry on her dedication to the park and provide lasting enjoyment for future generations.
Sandy was the proud grandmother of Adam, Andrew, and Alex Story; Kyslee and Olivia Greve; Alexis and Marina Murray; and Kassandra, Katelynn, and Kenneth Hendricks. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren who lovingly called her "GiGi" and whom she affectionately referred to as her "Littles".
While her passing brings sorrow, it also reminds us to celebrate the remarkable life she shared with us all, the love she gave so freely, the community and organizations she helped build, and the legacy she leaves behind. She was an amazing woman and will be missed by all who knew her.
